2013-2014 Elections

Elections for the 2013-2014 year are now open. As in any democratic organization, all positions are automatically open. The voting will take place at the NSBE office (2160 Bishop street, 3rd floor Suite 305) for 3 days, from April 2 to April 4 April 9 to April 11.

A “Questions & Answers” session with the candidates will be held on April 9 at 6pm in the B-Annex, and will be open to the public.

Candidates will be running for:

  • President
  • VP Internal
  • VP External
  • VP Finance
  • VP Programs
  • VP Communication
  • VP Marketing
  • Senator (two, both appointed)

Some of the positions have their tasks outlined in the constitution. Only paid members can vote and participate on the executive board. Eligible candidates should complete the nomination form and send their completed application to nsbe.internal@ecaconcordia.ca by midnight, April 1 April 8 2013.

NSBE Concordia Shines Bright!

This year, NSBE Concordia formed two teams to compete in the Consulting Design Olympiad – NSBE’s international design competition. The event culminated with a 30 minute presentation at the 2012 National Convention in Pittsburgh. Out of the 12 teams, NSBE Concordia placed 2nd and 4th!

The Consulting Design Olympiad is a cooperative design competition in which a North American team is paired with another from Africa. The end goal is to find an engineering solution to a real problem in a third world country. Each idea is reviewed by a board, and the finalists get to present their proposals in front of an audience and a few judges. This year, NSBE Concordia was shining bright – making up half of the finalists presenting in Pittsburgh! Congratulations to both teams for their hard work and dedication.

2012-2013 Elections

The NSBE Concordia elections for 2012-2013 will run from Tuesday April 10th to Thursday April 12th (the voting will be open for 3 days). We invite everyone to take part in the Q&A on Tuesday at 6pm, taking place in the B-Annex on Bishop Street.

Only members can vote, but the Q&A session is open to the public. This is a great opportunity to see who the next leaders might be and get to know NSBE and what we do.

To run for a position, download the NSBE Concordia Nomination Form, and send the completed form to nsbe.internal@ecaconcordia.ca by next Monday, at midnight.

Job Hunt: The Time Is Now

The time is now to look for jobs & internships for the summer. We’ve listed some events to look out for:

  • February 1 & 3: Résumé Clinic. Drop by between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm for a quick 15 minute session in the Career and Resource Centre, SGW – H440. Be sure to bring along a printed copy of your résumé.
  • February 13 & 14: ENCS Career Fair.
  • March 6, 13, 20 & 27: Resume Check-up Drop-In Sessions. Drop by between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm for a quick 15 minute session at CAPS, SGW – EN109. Bring along your résumé.
  • March 14 & 15: Montreal Engineering Career Fair, 5th Edition: At the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

PLUS Leadership Workshop Series

Counseling & Development is holding a series of workshops on leadership. From the CDEV website: This series is designed to introduce you to the basic skills and knowledge needed to become an effective leader. Students who complete all six workshops (a total of 18 hours of attendance plus MBTI testing) will receive a PLUS Certificate. The PLUS workshops can also be taken individually for those not interested in pursuing the certificate.

The PLUS certificate might look good on your resume, but the skills you might gain from these workshops are invaluable. You’ll find more information on their website.

Study Session – Fall 2011

Every Monday evenings from 6pm to 10pm, NSBE Concordia will be hosting a study session – complete with redbull – in room MB S1.105 of the John Molson building. This is great if you need a change of scenery from the library, or simply need a quiet place to read your books.

2011 Canada Fall Conference

This year’s Canada Fall Conference — themed Blueprint for Success — will be held right here, at Concordia University. The event is taking place on October 29 in the EV building (S.G.W. campus) and will bring together NSBE students from chapters across the country. The conference, open to both members and non-members, will consist of interesting presentations and an information session on what NSBE is all about. Workshops will also be offered on topics ranging from the pros and cons of grad school, to advice and tips on how to transition from a University life to a professional career.
